GONG HEI FATT CHOY!! 🧧🐍
As we slither into the Year of the Wood Snake, let’s talk about the real snakes at work – the ones we encounter while climbing the career ladder.
Here’s AuntyHR’s guide to spotting the snakes and finding the right ladders in your workplace:
🐍 The Backstabbing Snake – The most common of all office snakes, also known as the two-headed snake. Smiles to your face, strikes when you turn your back. You think they’re a friend – until you feel the bite.
🪜 Tips: Keep your receipts and limit what you share. Document everything so they don’t get a chance to twist the story.
🐍 The Python Boss – Squeezes the life out of you, demanding more, more, more while giving less, less, less.
🪜 Tips: Set boundaries, push back when needed, and start looking for a better jungle where you’re appreciated.
🐍 The Credit-Stealing Cobra – Your hard work, their achievement. Always ready to hiss about how “we did this together.”
🪜 Tips: Own your work! Improve your presentation skills, speak up in meetings, document your contributions, and stay visible by looping in the right people.
🐍 The Drama Viper – Everything is a crisis with them, and somehow, you always end up caught in their dramatic storyline.
🪜 Tips: Avoid their pit, don’t engage, and stay neutral. Be firm, stick to the facts, and don’t feed the chaos.
🐍 The Gatekeeping Anaconda – Ah, this one. I once had a personal vendetta with this species. The one who blocks promotions, hoards information, and suffocates your career growth.
🪜 Tips: Find your way around them. Network smartly, build strong relationships, and don’t let this one snake control your climb.
But then again, not all snakes are bad! Some are just strategic, adaptable, and resilient – traits that can work in our favour if used wisely. The trick is knowing which ones to work with and which ones to avoid while climbing your ladder. 🪜✨
With that, I wish everyone a Year of the Snake filled with wisdom, agility, and plenty of opportunities to level up!
