💡 Resume Tips for the “Over-Experienced”

If your resume has 10 pages, we have a problem. 😅
The more experience we have, the harder it gets to edit ourselves.

Here are my recommendations you should consider:

1. Focus on the last 10 years. Recruiters care most about your recent relevance, not your entire career history. For earlier roles, you can summarise.
Example: “Held various roles in finance & operations (2005-2012). Full list available upon request.”

2. Be selective. You don’t need to list everything you’ve ever done. Pick experiences that align with the job you’re applying for. Otherwise, you risk coming across as jack of all trades, master of none.

3. Ditch outdated skills. Nobody needs to know you’re proficient in Windows XP or *gasp* Lotus 1-2-3. Focus on current and transferable skills relevant to today’s business landscape.

4. Reframe your career narrative. Long careers tell stories. Just make sure yours reads like purposeful growth, not random hopping. A clear timeline with steady progression shows focus and maturity.

5. Keep it two pages, the best. If really need be, 4 is like stretching. Honestly, if you can’t summarise 20 years of work in 2 pages, it’s not a career problem. It’s an editing problem (peace ✌️☮️).

At your level, nobody’s hiring you because you’ve done everything.
They’re hiring you because you know what matters the most.

Think about it.
