I’ve been in recruitment long enough to know that both matter.
This is my honest take.
If you have the right education, it buys you options Especially when you are just starting out.
When you are a fresh graduate with no experience and no track record, that qualification is often the only thing that gets your resume past the first screening.
For regulated industries like law, medicine, accounting, engineering, your qualification never really loses its relevance. After all, it’s tied to your license to practice.
But for everyone else, the longer you are in the workforce, the less your degree does the talking.
Your skills, your results, and your reputation take over.
And I say this from personal experience…
Some of the most impressive leaders I have worked with, including few of my own ex-bosses, are SPM leavers. They are sharp, experienced, and highly respected in their fields.
So no, education is not everything. But it does give you a better starting position.
And sometimes, a better start is all we need to build something bigger.
Think about it.
