I was invited by Astro to spend 3 days and 2 nights at Lexis Hibiscus to experience the set of “Golden Blessings,” a Malaysia-Hong Kong Chinese New Year movie collaboration.
(FYI, no, I’m not part of the cast. I was hired to do BTS of the BTS. 💀)
I’ve been on all sorts of production sets before.
Television, live shows, radio, etc.
But never a movie set, so trust me when I tell you, I was excited!
I even called my mother to tell her because we love TVB series and adore Kent Cheng, widely known as Fei Mao.
I remember arriving around 9.30am on 9 September. As I walked towards the hotel lobby, there it was!
A huge production crew had taken over the lobby. And right in front of me was the legendary Fei Mao, shooting a scene!
WAHHHHH!!!
Then I proceeded to meet my handler from Astro, had a wonderful breakfast at the Roselle Coffee House, checked into my room, freshened up and came back out around 12pm for my briefing.
Guess what?
Fei Mao was STILL THERE at the same place, same scene. More than 3 hours later!
Then I looked around.
Camera, lighting, sound, production, make-up. And that poor guy who had been holding that giant microphone in the air for gawd knows how long!
It really takes a village to make a movie.
And an even bigger one if you want to produce a good movie.
Everything I saw cost money.
Sometimes, we become so obsessed with getting things cheaper that we forget there are human beings earning a living somewhere absorbing the cost of our cheapness.
Good work deserves fair compensation.
So when something is genuinely worth supporting, perhaps we should also be generous enough to pay for it.
And when “Golden Blessings” finally comes out in 2027, please remember to support it and buy a ticket!
xoxoxo, AuntyHR
📸 A little behind the scene of the behind the scenes, from one of the few spots where I was allowed to take a picture. There are so many moving parts on a movie set. Truly amazing!
