POV: Set Up to Fail

There is a difference between allowing someone to fail and setting up to fail.

If you have warned them, coached them, given them the information they need and made your expectations clear… sometimes you have to let them fail.

People need to experience the consequences of their own decisions.

BUT…

If you withheld information, kept quiet about a mistake you could see coming, gave them an impossible deadline or denied them the resources they needed….

You didn’t only let them fail.

You helped them fail. Really.

Good managers don’t protect people from every mistake. But we also don’t remove the ladder and then company that someone couldn’t climb it.

Always give people a fair chance to succeed.

What they do with that chance is theirs. 🫶
