Recently, I’ve been receiving quite a number of questions from people who want to return to work after taking career breaks, ranging from three months to two years.
Many are asking me how they should prepare themselves for returning to the workforce.
I can relate because I took a nine-month career break myself back in 2023, and I must admit, getting back into a working routine wasn’t as easy as I thought. I struggled in the beginning.
But things gradually got better when I started waking up at a consistent time, setting myself deadlines and getting used to having a structured routine again.
That experience taught me getting back into working life takes some adjustment and cultivating working habits can make the transition easier.
You don’t have to jump straight back into the 9-to-6 lifestyle. The idea is to slowly warm up your body and mind for the demands of working life.
So, if you’re planning to return to work after a career break, my advice is to start building those habits even before your first day at work.
Take small steps, give yourself time to adjust, and remember to make room for me time too.
Let’s return to work healthier this time, together.
Hope that helps.
