Okay…. let’s talk about this one, because it comes up a lot.
First, let’s be real.
Most NDAs are meant to protect confidential company information like business strategies, client data, and trade secrets.
Your payslip? That’s your personal employment record.
I mean, we already share it with banks when applying for loans, with agents when renting houses, no? So the idea that sharing payslips with a potential employer will trigger a legal action is a bit dramatic, I must say.
Now, many of us hesitate to share our payslip is because we feel underpaid.
We’re afraid, “If I show my payslips, they will anchor my offer to my current salary.”
And it’a valid fear.
But instead of hiding behind an NDA, we can handle this with a better positioning.
Try saying this instead:
“I’m open to sharing my payslip for verification purposes. However, I’d like to highlight that my current compensation does not reflect my market value, which is why I’m actively exploring new opportunities. I hope the offer can be benchmarked against the market and the value I bring, rather than my current salary.”
And see what they say.
After all , we also want to know whether we’re going to work with a company that can treat us fairly, right?
All the best with your salary negotiations.
May we get what we’re truly worth.
