I was asked: “Aunty, I’m in HR. Every time we organise a team building, someone complains. What are we doing wrong?”
This is a tough question but a very good one.
One comment I hear quite often is… we see back the same people and it just feels fake.
But that’s exactly why team building is important, right?
Sometimes we just need to fake it till we make it. Trust isn’t built overnight.
Anyway, here are 3 things you might be doing wrong:
1. Forcing employees to take annual leave. Bosses, if it’s a company-organised event, you don’t ask employees to give up their personal leave to attend.
2. Organising the same boring activities. Most people just want a fresh experience Don’t be afraid to try new activities that get people laughing, connecting, and creating new memories together.
3. Organising activities on non-working days. We can encourage participation but don’t make people feel guilty for choosing their personal life.
And also… you need to consider different age groups, fitness levels, dietary requirements, prayer facilities, and accessibility.
Organising a good event memang complicated, k…
That’s why you might want to consider working with experienced organisers like ATAG, who can help plan programmes for you.
Remember, being together-gether can be really enjoyable, only if we allow it to be.
