I’ve spent most of my professional life in this industry. So I don’t really have the experience to compare how it’s like with another industry.
But, I’ve seen a lot of people from various industries coming to the workforce industry. And got addicted with it.
Entertainment, Retail, Logistics, Banking, Information Technology, Health, Manufacturing, Hospitality, Financial Services… They switched from there to here and got stuck with it since.
There is something magnetic about this people business. Perhaps it’s the constant desire to be connected with different people. Maybe it’s the narcissist thought of contributing to the society by providing employment. But most importantly, it’s also getting a not too shabby pay along the way. Just like how my exboss would summarize it – NGO work with MNC pay.
However, one thing for sure, to survive in the industry, you need to be tenacious. The people business is a tough business after all. You need to have a flair in sales, people skills (duh), patient yet aggressive, and a very good sense of humour.
