“The interviewer tells you, “You don’t have any experience, so we don’t want to hire you.” Then you tell the interviewer, “But if you don’t hire me, I cannot get the experience!” It’s like a chicken and egg situation. No experience, don’t want to hire. You don’t hire, there will be no experience. So which one came first? The chicken or the egg?”
Then… this kid, came out from nowhere said to me, while rolling her eyes, “Well, my religion says that the chicken came first.”
That moment I was stunned. But the statement really got me thinking… and she is right. Most religions, including mine, would agree the chicken came first.
Now… if I apply that analogy back to the my hiring vs. experience situation, of course, hiring is the Chicken. The hiring needs to come first!
Because that is how God intended nature to be. Kids cannot take care of themselves. If the egg would had come first, the chick would had died because you need mother hen to raise the chick. So the first chicken had to come first to survive to lay the first egg.
Think about it… If you want business continuity, the natural thing to do is to hire fresh grads. Give them the experience. I know all these freshies, just like kids, could be a nuisance to train. We just don’t have the time! But as leaders, It’s our duty to transfer our knowledge to the next generation for they are the future of the business. As cliche as that sounded, think about it, it does make sense. right?
So hiring managers, take the chance on these fresh grads. Give them the experience. So they can grow up and lay the next egg for the company.
