I’ve taken a salary cut before. Actually, three times.
The first time, I voluntarily took a lower-paying job because I was so unhappy where I was.
The second time, I had no choice, I was demoted.
But I stayed because I wanted to prove that I could do better.
Also because I was pregnant.
The third time was when I left corporate and pivoted my career.
For the first year, while I was learning the education and entertainment business, my income took a hit.
So when people ask me, “Should I take a salary cut?” for whatever reason, I don’t think the answer is automatically no.
I’ve seen many people who decided to take less for more happiness.
They take less to change careers, learn something new or pursue something they really want.
And of course, for many, it’s not a choice at all.
Life happens and they take what they can get.
I think what really matters is what happens after the salary cut.
Especially when you didn’t choose it, figure out what you can get out of it.
Don’t be a sitting duck.
Happy weekend, everybody.
Remember, your salary can go down temporarily but it doesn’t mean your value is going down with it.
Keep positioning yourself for what comes next. We’ve got this!
