It’s not uncommon to hear today that a manager is managing multiple portfolios. Just today I was chatting with someone who was telling me, “I have to guide the newbies. At the same time I have to meet my own sales target. And also please my boss’s expectations. So many hats to wear!”
Or sometimes you hear ppl telling you that they one leg kick, esp in SMEs. “I am HR, Admin, Finance and also Logistics! Crazy!”
Crazy indeed…. I can understand that challenge – one head but so many hats to wear. What I find do helpful is I manage my tasks in blocks. Be very clear what hat to wear and what is the objective at certain blocks of time. Sometimes, I even combine my hats to complete multiple tasks at the same time – just like that old saying, one stone 2 birds killed.
Another thing I always find it helpful is having the Service Hat on at all times regardless. Always do our best to deliver the best experience to people – that would never go wrong.
Besides, the more hats we wear, the more agile we will become for we will be trained to be flexible in accepting different challenges. Now, that skill does sell very well in the market. So if you are one who is required to wear many hats, embrace it and be energized by your hats. You are going to be the successful one in the future.
