I do find constructive feedback hard to swallow sometimes. Mulut manis is constructive feedback, but actually it’s a complaint or criticism in disguise sebenarnya. When it is given to me, I smile outside but inside, hmph, me rolling my eyes to the back of my head. There are times, I will stop listening altogether and start talking over the person even –>become defensive pulak!
But when you think about the times you are doing the same to others, all you hope for is some kind of support will be rendered to you in return. So the least I could do, is just try.
First thing I will try to do in being supportive is pause for a moment and listen. Keep an open mind and don’t start rolling eyes first.
Then I will try to ask myself, if I support this person, will it benefit me (let’s face it, when we think what’s in it for us, it will be much more motivating). And most of the time, it does actually. At least it will portray me as a bigger person as a team player. That couldn’t hurt.
And I will try to remind myself of karma. You support people, people will support you in return, right, right riiiiight?
