Yesterday a friend was telling me he went to cut his hair. The barber is from Bangladesh.
He told me that he didn’t manage to see him during CNY and though it’s over now, he gave him an angpow. The barber was very happy.
He then said, “Small gesture for them, they leave family to come work here.”
That statement just hit me. I know how that feels. I left my family too to come to this metropolis to pursue my career. It does get lonely. And hard. Probably we are a bit more hardworking than others to make the sacrifice worthwhile.
Anyways, what I wanted to say is when you do see these foreign workers esp the blue collars, if you can, do something nice for them. Like how Anne Herbert said, just “Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty.”
So the world can make sense again. Be kind to one another.
