That was the question posted to me today by WordPress.
The other day I went out for lunch with a young man. In his mid-30s, he is already a self-made millionaire. He was sharing with me that his next goal is his ‘early retirement’ plans i.e. when he is 40. I know, right! He told me when he hits 40, he is planning to take a career break for 1 year & go travel around the world with his wife.
Oh my! I am so envious of him!
But it’s okay… because what I am feeling is benign envy (vs. a malicious envy). The young man does deserve the success with all the hard work he has invested in & the courage to leave his employment to start his business 15 years ago. So when we parted, I wished him well sincerely that may his goals come true in the next few years to come.
Meanwhile, I shall hold on to my envious feeling of him. Let my envy trigger my desire to be better so I can use it to motivate myself to get closer to my 1st million (though I must say it’s so farrrrrr away!).
