Under Malaysian employment law, employers are not legally required to provide a probationary period. However, many companies choose to implement it as a way to assess a new employee’s suitability for a position.

Probation is not only for the employer to assess the probationer but also an opportunity for the employee to evaluate the company and determine if it aligns with their career goals and expectations.

While probation periods can be challenging, they also offer an opportunity for growth, learning, and mutual evaluation between the employer and the employee, if done right.
