Sexual Harassment & HR

In 2012, Sexual Harassment was introduced in the Employment Act 1955. It is defined as “any unwanted conduct of a sexual nature, whether verbal, non-verbal, visual, gestural or physical, directed at a person which is offensive or humiliating or is a threat to his well-being, arising out of and in course of his employment.”

Trust is the cornerstone of any workplace. When it comes to sensitive matters like reporting sexual harassment, trust in HR is paramount. I’ve heard stories of people whose courage to report harassment turned into disappointment when HR didn’t maintain neutrality.

HR’s role is not just to investigate but to create a safe, confidential space. Anonymity during investigations can make all the difference. It’s not about taking sides; it’s about ensuring justice and safeguarding our workplace’s integrity.

Let’s foster a culture where trust in HR is unwavering, and those who speak up feel heard and supported. Together, we can build workplaces free from harassment.”
