And the Best Actor/Actress award goes to….. The Fakers!!

Ah yes, “fake it till you make it,” they say.

Did you know that just by striking a powerful pose, it can affect your internal body chemistry? This was discovered by Amy Cuddy, a Harvard Business School social psychologist. She said if you lift your chest & head with arms on your hips (cehwahhh), your stress hormone cortisol decreases and your testosterone increases, improving your confidence.

I often fake it when I am speaking in public. I prefer standing over sitting and throw my voice to the floor for the same reasons. I may appear confident but inside I am nervous.

Smiling is something also I had learnt to fake. I remember there was this colleague I didn’t quite fancy in the office – her existence just irritated me. But instead of rolling my eyes whenever I see her, which is not going to help with anything, I’ve decided to fake it. Smile & say good morning. And she good morning in return. And we have been civilized with each other since.

However, be careful with what you fake. If it’s knowledge, qualifications, information, that sort of thing, don’t do it. For the other Chinese saying goes, “Paper cannot wrap fire.” The key is to make sure it benefits the situation at the end of the day.

So to all you Best Actors and Best Actresses out there, I wish you the best till you make it.
