Yes, being nice is a nice attribute to have but it also can be a disadvantage. Especially when you are in a senior position who needs to make tough decisions. Because the last thing you need is people taking advantage and walking all over you like a cashmere carpet.
Though when you ask people, they would tell you I am more of a Hot Head than Mary Poppins, there are moments that I am actually very nice – and yes people do take advantage of it. You know that saying, when we give them an inch and they do try their luck to take a mile!
However, I’ve learnt that we also can take advantage of our “niceness” – two words – Guilt Trip.
Well, I am not encouraging manipulation, butttttttt….. if you do it right with the right intention and kindness and patience when you put someone through this trippy guilt journey, it might also motivate them to make an effort to be nice in return. It’s a good alternative rather than going through the angry and bitter route, right?
So to all you Mr/Mrs/Miss/Datuk/Datin Nice Fellows out there, do continue to be nice for the world need more of you. Just be careful of that dirty foot that is trying to soil you over.
