Many followers meluahkan perasaan to me that their boss instructed them to return to the office even when a medical practitioner has certified them as unfit for duty.
Me? I have the opposite problem.
I have staff who are sick, and I have to chase them out of the office.
Both are extreme scenarios.
On one hand, forcing sick employees to work when they clearly need rest is irresponsible and can worsen their condition – not to mention the risk of spreading illness to others.
On the other hand, some employees refuse to take a break, thinking they are being “hardworking” when, in reality, their productivity is compromised and they are putting others at risk.
So…
Bosses, learn to trust medical certificates. If the doctor says they are unfit for duty, they are unfit for duty. Let them rest.
Employees, stop romanticizing overworking. You are not proving your dedication by coming to work sick. You are proving that you don’t know how to set boundaries.
Rest when you need to. Work when you can. Stay home when you’re sick. Simple.
