This is another iconic Olympic moment. A powerful picture taken by photojournalist John Dominis that was frowned by many in 1968. Tommie Smith & John Carlos won the gold & bronze medals lowered their heads, raised their hand in a black glove, wearing only black socks and no shoes. They were eventually booed by the crowd as they left the podium.
Civil Rights has came a long way since 1968. I sometimes do wonder if that demonstration would had happened today, would they be still booed by the crowd.
Anyways, the Cantonese has this saying, “針唔拮到肉唔知痛”, that literally translates to whilst the needle hasn’t puncture the flesh, you won’t know what pain is.
Well it’s true, isn’t it? That it is easy to dismiss one’s pain especially when one has not experience it.
