Yesterday I conducted a candidate’s reference check. The candidate applied for a sales-oriented role so I called up one of his customers. In the conversation with the referee, she was describing about an incident in length on how this candidate had helped her to solve a problem last year.
Some key phrases I picked up instantly:
“It was actually not his job to help me to do this cause it’s out of his scope, but he did.”
“It was way after his office hour but he was very willing to help me.”
“After the problem is resolved, he still checked up on me later to see if everything is okay.”
And how the referee could remember the details of what had happened last year was also a good testimony that she truly appreciated what he did for her.
Now, that is what I call a very good reference check for it truly commended the candidate’s effort in delivering the great customer experience.
