And it’s not uncommon to find silence after.
So in order to motivate people to participate in meetings actively, sometimes we motivate by fear. Ah yes, we punish those who are not contributing ideas. Especially those who always choose to take a back seat in meetings.
What we do is that we keep a scorecard for everybody in the meeting, If you voice out a comment or an opinion or ask a question, there will be 1 point for each comment/question. Whoever scores the least points or lesser than 2 points at the end of the meeting, they are then ‘rewarded’ with the spotlight to give a closing speech.
We have done these few times in meetings and it has been quite effective. You should give it a try too.
