Once someone said to me, “You studied to be engineer…. What a shame, If I had your gift of science and maths, I would have gone to investment banking or learnt to trade in future.”
“You said me in recruitment a shame?!”
“I mean your skills in physics and maths you can’t apply it in recruitment right? That’s why shame to me.”
Oh darling, you can apply physics and maths in anything & everything.
We engineers can analyze, gantt chart, calculate & process-ise the crap out of anything, let alone HR. Pffftttt….
In fact, my boss often express his gratefulness of my engineering background at work that enabled me to get to the root of the problems and resolve them swiftly, systematically.
You know what, in fact most of the best people I know in the HR field are not even from HR field but from a diverse background. Some were from banking, some were from hospitality and quite a number of them are just like me, from engineering. And I must say, they are just as good as the ones who graduated from university in HR.
So cheers to all the HRneers out there. May we be the best HRs who drive boldness and innovation thinking in the future workforce.
