The other day I attended a crash course on Leadership Styles. The trainer asked the class, “Who thinks you are a borned leader? Raise your hand.”
Only I did. Then he asked, “Why do you think you are one?” I told him, “I believe I am just naturally bossy.” A heard a few giggles, including the trainer & myself when I said that.
Joking aside, I don’t really know what a borned leader means, but growing up, I always have had a dominant personality. I believe it has to do a lot with my mother’s influence in my life. She is one tenacious (& fierce) woman who doesn’t give up, no matter what.
So when I saw this book by leadership guru John C. Maxwell, I was drawn to the title, “The Right To Lead”. Then I heard me mumbling to myself at the bookstore, “Damn right, I earned my gawd damn right to lead!” And to my pleasant surprise, when I read the the preface of the book, it echoed “The right to lead can only be earned.”
Being a people’s leader for more than a decade, it had taught me that it doesn’t get easier. It’s really hard work every day. It tests your patience constantly. And your endurance in managing stress and pain.
And because of that I believe it trained me to be a tougher person and dare I say a better one even.
That is why I love to lead. Besides, it fits my natural bossiness personality nicely like that >.<
