When you talk about energetic leaders, it always reminded me of former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s viral video on how he jumped up and down on stage, cheering the crowd at Microsoft events. Do I think he was crazy too? Yes, I do. But do I find him inspiring and amazing at the same time? Yes, I do!! Oh. he worked up that crowd is absolutely exciting! He made me want to jump and scream too even though I am just watching him in youtube.
You see, people do love an energetic leaders. I know I do. Don’t you find their energy can be so contagious? That enthusiasm and excitement does hype me up.
However, like all things, energy can run out too. That is why we save it for what matters. Just the other day a colleague was telling me she has this non-performer in her team and it’s sucking the energy out of her. I told her to not spend so much time on the non-performer but that she should focus her energy on the performers instead, because they are the one that matters – more.
Ah yes, focus your energy on what matters. Bring your energy on to what will make a difference. Don’t let negative or false attacks suck that positive energy out of you. For we want to reserve our energy to conquer victories that could bring us even more energy!
