Nowadays we text more than we call. When the phone rings, half the time our first instinct will be ‘hmmm… there must be something’.
I am also a heavy texter. It is quieter and more convenient. I like how it gives me space to think what to reply & when I want to reply. Besides, I type faster than I speak anyways.
However, I am also one who appreciates a phonecall. I appreciate the effort the person took the time to dial the number, patiently waiting for the ringing tone and the courage to say hello.
That is why when people call me for something, I do try to return the favour by paying the attention on what they need immediately. Like for example, when a candidate calls me to check if I had received their resume, I will pause my work to go check if I did.
The art of talking on the phone is diminishing as the generation progresses. But I have faith. It will make a comeback just like how the 80s and 90s trends are.
For I also believe voice and great conversations are going to be the future. Because it builds intimacy and heightens the connection which we all so yearn.
