Honestly, we Asians (esp women) are not very good at accepting praises and taking credits. I was one of them too.
Like when I was praised for winning an award, I answered, “Thank you, I got lucky.”
Or when I was praised for wearing a nice dress, I answered “Thank you, but no lah, it normal only.”
Or when I was praised for giving a great presentation, I answered “Thank you but it was not really a big deal.”
Then one day, my ex-boss said, “Why can’t you just stop at ‘Thank you’? It’s a compliment, take it!”
That was when I started to learn how to accept praises and take credits because they were really due.
For I did win the award because I worked super hard for it.
For I did look nice in that dress because I have good taste.
And I did give a great presentation because I prepared for it well.
So thank you. Full stop.
