“Ku Sim Ling is a Bitch.” A friend told me a subordinate of mine posted that in Facebook.
Oh, that subordinate of mine, she felt so proud of it. So proud of humiliating me in a public post in Facebook.
I did not respond to the post. Actually, I did not even go look for the post.
I was angry. I was sad. I was ashamed. And I was very, very heart-broken. Oh, it was truly painful.
So painful, I refuse to go back there again in 2009.
That broken heart turned out to be a very valuable lesson for me. It made me realized there were so much more work to be done on myself. So, I worked harder to be a better manager.
Embrace the criticism. Don’t be defensive. Do more. Talk less. Accept. And move forward.
Oh, it was not easy (still not easy actually). Took me years to get there. In those years, so many times I wanted to give up. But every time I’d remind myself how painful my broken heart was and it drove me to continue to work hard to earn the respect from the team again.
Fail. Learn. Try again. Fail again. Learn again. Try again and again.
For this bitch is going to be a successful leader for her people. And be respected.
