This is Jeik. She heads our Accounts team so I nicknamed her the Accountant affectionately.
Both of us are people managers for many years. And that day both of us were very stressed out with our own people respectively. So when I saw her messaged me, “Wanna lunch?”, I was like, “God yes, jom!”
Many people think it’s not that hard to be boss, you know. Not easy, but cannot be that hard too, right? Wrong answer.
It’s hard. Literally hard work.
We need to make tough decisions that is going to make us very unpopular. A good job well done will always be the team’s credit, might not be ours even but when it comes to mistakes, it’s always ours, regardless. So it does get very stressful.
Enters Jeik, my other unsung sounding board.
She helps me destressing by not only listening to me babbling about my people, but she also teaches me how to see things in a different perspective, especially one that is totally opposite of mine.
She is also one of those people I know who might not be very good in articulating her feelings but you know she loves her people very much. There were many times she put up a good fight for her people but she never tell them about it. So motherly, perfect as a sounding board, don’t you think?
And another thing that I’ve learnt about her that bonds us, don’t see her look so innocent like that, she is quite a fierce drinker too.
So today, I want to express my gratitude to my Accountant who is always there, being a good cheer leader to me. No pun intended 🍻 =}
