The other day I had an interesting conversation with a friend about perspectives.
He said, “Nothing is the truth, only perspectives.”
It reminded me that old story about 3 blind men who were touching the elephant. Is the elephant hard and smooth? Is the elephant soft and flat? Or is the elephant round and long?
Then I countered, “Well, then it should be everything is the truth, from different perspectives.”
For me, understanding the different opinions from different perspectives does shine things in a brand new light. Understanding the intention behind the decision will enable me to anticipate the reaction so I can maneuver on how to go about to adjust.
However sometimes, I must admit, it’s not easy to just “understand”, you know what I mean? Especially when I am quite stubborn, very opinionated and have not experienced what the other person is experiencing.
But I am learning. Learning how to respect people’s perspective. Respecting the differences in people.
Worse comes to worst, we just agree to disagree so we can move forth. Otherwise, till the cows come home, the meeting will not end.
