This is Elvin. My other boss.
When we are together, like most old-timers, you will hear us babbling away, “You know ah, back in those days when we were consultants….” hahahahaha…
I have known Elvin for a very long time.
However, it’s only recent years I had the opportunity to work with him closely when his portfolio expanded and became my boss. During this period, my learning accelerated for there were so many things he had taught me. So many.
Besides his vast knowledge in operations, another thing I truly admire about him, is his resilience. Getting to where he is today is definitely not easy. If you give him enough alcohol, you’ll be able to hear all the horror stories that he had to endure throughout his career.
Like this one story he told me a few nights back about when he was being lambasted by his boss for losing a bid to a competitor. Coincidentally, it was drizzling that night & he was out partying with his team. He said he stepped out from the party, stayed on the call with the rain (such drama) & stayed laser focus listening to his boss for 10 whole minutes.
After the call, he went back to the party and continued to entertain his team like nothing happened.
When I was listening to him telling me that story with so much humour, I was thinking, such admirable resilience. His sense of control of his emotions & ability to remain calm under such stress.
It somehow reminded me of our Work, and Smile culture. We are indeed very passionate with our job & our people. Good times, bad times, we continue to work, and smile. Because at the end of the day, we know it’s going to be all worth it.

I just noticed, on the left hand corner of the picture is his phone showing a selfie we took earlier that same day 🙃
