Little Girl’s Lessons Learnt from Daddy

When I got my driving license, before I was allowed to drive on the road alone, my father made me learn how to change the tire first. He showed me how as I watched him. Then, he made me changed the car’s tire over and over again till he was sure I could do it on my own if I was ever stranded on the road alone.

Most of my handiness skills from fixing the house, I learnt from my father. I’d watch how he did it and learn. Because it was also very important for him to know that I could take care of myself when I moved out to stay alone. How to change the light’s starter & power switch. How to fix a leaking sink. How to assemble an 8-feet cabinet. All on my own.

But, the most valuable lesson that I had learnt from watching my father, is his endurance. Throughout my life I’ve watched him failing so many times esp in his business. And every time he fell, I’ve also watched him getting back up on his feet. Every. Single. Time.

It didn’t matter what age he was in, you know.

I still remember when he was in his 50s, he had to start all over again as a sales rep selling cheap cigarettes door to door. This was a man who once was a successful millionaire businessman. But it didn’t matter to him. If it meant for him to start all over from the beginning to get back up again after falling, so be it. Such fearlessness & endurance.

And today, at this very moment as I am typing this, he is enjoying his life golfing at the country club =)

He once told me, it’s never too old to learn new things & start all over again. As long as we want to do it, we can do it. Very, very apt in my life right now.

Embrace failures. Learn from them. Accept them. And we keep moving forth.

Happy Father’s Day to all daddies out there. Cheers to your fearlessness & endurance to always keeping your little ones safe. Especially your little girl.

My father also taught me to hold my alcohol so that I would not be taken advantage of when I go out drinking with boys. So for all fathers out there, you might want to consider the same. Think about it. My wise father is right =}
