A fellow viewer once asked me this, “Shall I declare to the company about my disability?”
I do understand why people fear revealing their disabilities. On top of the society can be quite a judgmental one, the discrimination law in this country is so weak after all.
But Chinese has this saying, “Paper cannot wrap fire.” The truth will come out sooner or later, so I might as well be honest upfront.
However, what’s more important than managing expectations, for me, I want to find a company that is able to accept me for I am. And that includes accepting my troubled past.
I do spend a significant amount of my waking hours at work. So being able to be myself & be happy at work is important. I don’t want to pretend to be something that I am not. And definitely not living in fear, watching my six what might happen “when people find out”, if it makes sense.
So my advice is be genuine and sincere. Carry ourselves with integrity. And be our authentic self.
