“Actually I had fever, sore throat, headache, the whole shebang. But I just continued to work.”
“I supposed the distraction works.”
“Yes, it did. Very sharp you.”
—————-”o”—————–
Well, that was when I was infected with Covid earlier this year. At that point of time, honestly, the only thing that was keeping me sane was my work. I am lucky that my work allows me to work from home, productively. Not only I was working, I was working till late night (even though my boss kept texting me to take more time off to rest). But… the loneliness during isolation was just too real for me and I needed that distraction.
That reminded me, some odd 25 years ago, my young 17-year-old cousin passed away in a car accident. I remember I went to my uncle’s house to see what I can help out with the funeral arrangements, my uncle saw me and said “Hi” somberly while holding a laundry basket filled with clothes. Back then I was so young, I couldn’t understand that moment but later in life I’ve learnt that my uncle was so directionless with the sudden lost of his son that he didn’t know what to do. So, he kept himself busy with housework.
As often as we hear about how our personal problems can distract us from work, on the other hand, I ‘use’ my work to distract myself from my personal problems. Just stay sharp focus at work so that I know at least something in my life is still working out well, if you get what I mean.
