“You managed to have a good break during the holidays?”
“Well, I service the retail market, so work never left me alone. Even after 7pm my customers will text me because their outlets are still open.”

Hmmm… I can understand the conundrum there for I also serviced the retail market before. However, over the years, I have learnt the trick of postponing my response.
I will reply the text politely that I acknowledge their request and I will come back to them when I back to the office on Monday. For I also want to manage their expectations.
Of course, once in a blue moon if it’s really urgent, we also don’t need to be so calculative, we should go the extra mile to help.
But… if it happens too often, we also need to learn how to say ‘not now, but later’. And from my experience, most people’s faces are actually quite thin, so if we say that often enough, they will also get it.
How about you? How do you manage customers/bosses/colleagues texting you after office hours especially on the weekends!
