In a job interview, it’s not only a good time for the hiring manager to assess your suitability for the role, it’s also a good opportunity for us to assess whether he/she is the right boss for us.
That is why, one of the question I would encourage to ask the interviewer is, “Are you my direct reporting manager?” Because… if not, it would be a good idea for us to request to speak to the direct reporting manager. Besides to iron out early expectations of each other, it’s always beneficial to get to know the manager better and just to see if there is any chemistry between the both of us.
If it’s not too inconvenient, you might also want to ask for a face to face interview instead (though virtual interviews are so common nowadays). Because… it also gives you a good chance to see your potential employer’s office. Go visit the place to see if it’s okay or not – sometimes, how a company’s office look also can tell a lot about the company.
Think about it. I make sense =D
