The presentation was going to happen on Monday with the client. Charlie, an experienced team leader, reviewed the presentation deck with his team on Friday. Charlie felt doubtful with the proposal but he decided not to say anything about it and just let it be.
Why? Because it was a Friday and the presentation was going to happen on Monday. Charlie did not want to stress himself out to work over the weekend to fix the proposal.
Well, as expected, the presentation didn’t go well on Monday. And you know what Charlie told me after that? He said, “We tried our best already.”
I was like, “Heh. Did you really?”
Charlie lost the project to a competitor that day. But what was more detrimental was Charlie did not realised it was not only the project that he had lost that day. He had also lost his credibility and reputation by submitting that doubtful proposal.
And honestly, even if he had fixed that proposal that weekend, it could not guarantee his team the win as well. But at the very least he would have earned the right to say, “We tried our best already.”
