✅ Insert a professional photo of yourself, preferably smiling, to send a message that you’re not a party pooper.
✅ Add a hint of colour to your resume to make it less dry, but stick to minimalist designs.
✅ Place your most recent experiences at the top. People are always interested with the ‘you’ now, not the ‘you’ from 10 years ago.
✅ Use bullet points for clarity and easy reading, exactly what I am trying to do with this post.
✅ Be bold and specific when providing context for your achievements. Numbers are always sexy.
⚠️ General skills like MSWord and Powerpoint can be removed. Today, they are prerequisites, not valuable skills.
⚠️ Vague and overused phrases like “hardworking” or “fast learner” can be removed too – nobody is looking for a lazy and slow learner.
⚠️ Don’t shrink your font on purpose to fit two-page – refine and condense your content instead. When recruiters need to squint reading your resume, it’s the wrong start.
⚠️ Avoid unexplained employment gaps especially it’s an active role – provide context if necessary, and never, ever lie.
⚠️ Don’t have a long list of certifications (especially internal trainings which are not accredited) – highlight those that are relevant, three tops
