Employee Resume Sessions

Today, I read something really interesting from Seth Godin. He talked about an idea from Tom Peters, an American writer on business management practices, about leaders who conducted resume sessions for their teams. The skepticism is understandable – why encourage your team to be market-ready? Yet, Peters argued that it’s better to work with people who choose to stay, rather than those who feel stuck.

I completely agree. As a leader, I see the importance of my staff finding joy and fulfilment in their work. Given the considerable amount of time we spend at our jobs, it’s important that it feels rewarding and not like a hostage situation.

This got me thinking… would conducting resume sessions empower employees, fostering a sense of freedom and choice? And as leaders, should we embrace this approach to cultivate a more engaged and willing team?

Would you, employees? Would you, bosses?
