1. Customising your resume is not as tedious as you might think. Treat it like a core template and, depending on the job that you are applying for, make simple tweaks here and there. Sometimes, I like to tweak the colours to match the client’s logo and I highlight certain keywords to align those used in their job advertisement. A little effort goes a long way.
2. Once, a hiring manager told me the most interesting part of a resume is the candidate’s interests. He likes to assess what the candidate has written as their hobbies or co-curricular activities. From there, he guesses the candidate’s personality – whether the person is an introvert or extrovert – to evaluate whether the person can fit into his team’s dynamics. Huh – I thought that made so much sense.
3. But nothing beats quantified achievements. It’s great to include numbers in your achievements to solidify your track record. My ex-boss always told me, “Numbers speak.”
