When I started my #BebelHR YouTube series in October last year, I thought I had a solid plan. It was Halloween month, so I wrote horror stories based on actual IR court cases. But since I was new to scriptwriting, I relied heavily on ChatGPT.
We completed four episodes, but the result was terrible! The script was weak, my performance was awkward – even the pretty set couldn’t save the show. It just didn’t work. Failed.
So I went back to learning.
I subscribed to MasterClass and studied scriptwriting – how to craft a protagonist, build obstacles, and create twists that keep the audience hooked. With that knowledge, I rewrote the scripts, and we recorded two new episodes. Still bad. Failed again. My producer, Jocelyn, and I decided to drop the concept altogether and didn’t even bother airing those two episodes.
Then she suggested, “Why don’t we try answering questions while doing a Get-Ready-With-Me?” 🎥💄
Hmmm… well, why not? I’m always open to fresh ideas, especially from the younger minds. Besides, I’m best off scriptless, answering questions on the fly. So I started practicing on Instagram Live for three months before we filmed the actual shoot right before Chinese New Year.
Next, we’re moving on to the next experiment – a video podcast where I’ll be chit-chatting with people spilling the tea on their real workplace experiences. ☕
For months, Josie and I have been experimenting with different types of contents. Failing fast. Learning faster.
One of the best lessons I’ve learned from my an ex-boss:
👉 It’s okay to fail, as long as we move quickly, adapt, and try something new.
Till today, we still haven’t gotten it quite right – but we’re not giving up. 🚀
