I recently met a Gen-Y boss who left a big impression on me.
He told me he gets really concerned when he sees his team still discussing work in the group chat late at night.
His first instinct wasn’t to pat himself on the back for having a “hardworking team.”
Instead, he wondered, “Did I overload the team?”
That’s rare.
That’s leadership with empathy.
Further into the conversation, I learned he regularly invests in his team’s learning, making sure they grow alongside the company.
And later I also found out that the first time he ever received a resignation was from an employee who had been with him for 6 years.
That says something, don’t you think?
To me, that’s the kind of boss who gets it – especially when working with younger generations.
Instead of complaining about “kids these days,” he listens, adapts, and builds a workplace where people want to stay.
Today’s workforce is a beautiful mix of Boomers, Gen-X, Millennials, and now Gen-Z.
It’s easy to see the gaps.
But if we look closer, we’ll also see the gifts…
Wisdom from experience.
Boldness from youth.
Values shaped by different times.
And a team made stronger by its diversity.
That is the kind of leadership we need more of – cross-generational, human-first, and future-ready.
