I used to think empathy was harmless.
“There’s no such thing as too much empathy!” I told myself.
After all, what could go wrong with understanding people deeply, right?
Oh gawd.
So many things, actually.
Empathy is funny like that.
The same skill that builds connection… also opens the door for exploitation.
You understand people so well that you start excusing bad behaviour.
You cover for them, justify their mistakes, take on extra work.
Because… you get where they’re coming from.
And before you know it, people start expecting it.
Unchecked empathy doesn’t make us a saint.
It makes us a target!
Happy weekend, everybody! Understand people, yes. But don’t carry them.
We can be kind without being convenient.
