I used to pride myself on being the peacemaker.
You know, the one who could feel tension in the room before anyone said a word.
So I’d step in like a smart alec.
Redirect the topic, crack a joke, and wrap things up nicely.
Everyone smiled, and the meeting ended peacefully.
And I’d pat myself on the back, “Crisis averted!”
But who was I kidding, right?
No problem was being solved.
It just went quiet and got buried.
Then one day, KABOOM!
Great leaders don’t just maintain harmony.
We need to make space for healthy discomfort.
So real solutions can emerge.
For my emerging leaders, learn this early:
Peace is not the absence of conflict.
It’s the resolution of it.
Think about it.
