Last week at the HR Asia Awards, I had the pleasure of meeting Dato’ Lock, a Manager Partner at Baker Tilly.
You know how some leaders look intimidating from afar?
But the moment you speak to them, you realise, “Eh? This one is different…”
I watched him go round the table, introducing himself to everyone.
Throughout the night, he was taking pictures and videos, chatting with people, fully present.
I so dig his kind of enthusiasm!
He was thoughtful in conversation, humble in demeanour, and genuinely curious about people.
It reminded me that leadership is also about presence, respect, and how you make others feel.
At one point, he said to me, “In the world of HR, they know you. But in my world of accounting, they know me.”
“Yes, yes! I’m sure!” And we laughed together.
