Honestly, the idea is noble.
But let’s not forget, the reality can be brutal.
I’m not saying this lightly. From experience, close friends have suffered badly after whistleblowing.
The system that promised protection was broken.
Sometimes it really does feel like that old joke:
The most corrupted department is the anti-corruption department.
Retaliation dressed up as “performance issues”.
The slow, quiet punishment no policy admit exists.
And yet… I’ve also seen companies with whistleblowing channels that genuinely work.
Oh yes, they do exist.
One thing I’ve realised they all have in common is proper governance and independent investigations.
However, my advice has never changed, even after all these years.
Be extra careful with whistleblowing.
Put some thought into it. Be strategic. And be prepared if it goes bad.
It needs to be a calculated act of courage.
