Hello, hello, hello!
Hari Raya is next week, and aren’t we all excited for one of the biggest festive celebrations in Malaysia!!
Many of you have asked, “Aunty! What if Raya falls on a Friday the 20th instead of the 21st? Or tetiba the Perdana Menteri declares a public holiday? (fingers crossed) I have already applied for annual leave for that day? How?”
Calm down.
Let me introduce you Employment Act 1955, Section 60D(1B), where states that if a public holiday falls on your annual leave, the public holiday must be replaced.
In practice, most companies will simply cancel your annual leave for that day. I’m sure you would prefer that too.
Or you can move your leave to Monday, which was probably your original plan anyway, kan? Go back to work on a Tuesday.
So everybody relax first. Let’s wait for the official announcement. 🌛
For now, go ahead and apply your leaves as if Raya falls on the 21st (since that the date was released by MOHR/KESUMA earlier).
Happy weekend, people! Selamat Berbuka later!
Remember, whatever happens, you are protected by the law.

P.S. If your HR or boss decides to argue against this, please recommend that they attend my Employment Act 1955 class, 16-17 April or 20-21 April at Connexion, Bangsar South. They really need to understand the law better before anyone ends up reporting them to JTK and creating even more trouble.
