Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 is officially on 21st March, 2026, a Saturday.
Many of you are celebrating and I’m so happy for you.
But I also know that many of us will be working this Raya, especially those in the retail, healthcare, transportation, and other essential industries.
I’ve received so many questions about how employees should be compensated if they work on Raya.
I’ve also been asking around, and many of you shared that you are being given replacement leave. Naturally, the next question is… “Is that allowed?”
Yes, it is. And the replacement is on a one-to-one basis, as provided under Section 60D(1A) of the Employment Act 1955.
However, if your monthly wages do not exceed RM4,000, the employer may choose to compensate you monetarily instead.
If payment is given in place of replacement leave, refer to the chart below to determine whether the day falls under Rest Day rates or Public Holiday rates.
I hope this post helps both employees and employers better understand our local labour laws.
Happy weekend, everybody!
And thank you so much to everyone who signed up my Employment Act 1955 classes. The 16th-17th session is now fully sold out, the 20th-21st session is filling up fast, so we’ve decided to open additional classes in August 2026.
