After more than 20 years of hiring, I still have one favourite question:
“Why do you want this job?”
For me, it’s important that we want the job for reasons beyond money.
(Not that money isn’t important… please, we all know we are not working for charity here.)
But why this job?
Sometimes, the answers can be very simple:
“I want to pivot my career.”
“I want to learn something new.”
“I want to feel excited about work again.”
I can accept those answers.
The truth is, all jobs are stressful.
And on those mornings when we wake up feeling overworked, underpaid, or just hari anjing lah, we have to remember our why, as cliche as it sounds.
And if your reason is money, even more reason to get up. We have bills to pay, man!
The hardest part of any job, honestly, is not the job itself.
It’s having to show up even on days we don’t feel like it.
I’m not wrong.
